Best Bread Machine Bread

There are times I use my bread machine, and times I just use the oven, depending on my day. This is a GREAT bread machine recipe. I've just changed a few things. First thing is to know your bread machine manufacturers recommended way to place ingredients into the pan. Mine is wet, dry, then yeast in a little indent on top of the dry. Best Bread Machine Bread 1 cuip warm water 2 TBSP white siugar 1 (.25 ounce) yeast 1/4 cup veggie oil 3 cups flour 1.5 tsp salt Select basic or white bread setting and press start. So after I place all the ingredients into the bread machine pan. Then, here is the trick, instead of pressing the pan in until it clicks into the base I just set it into the hole. Then I turn it onto basic setting. About 30 minutes later the machine will beep signaling it is going into "rise" mode. I then unplug the machine, plug it back in and click the pan down into the base and start it back on "basic" mode. and let it cook! By not clicking it down int...

Sourdough Bread and Kitchen Cart

Give it a Whirl Thursday will be a weekly column documenting triumphs and failures of frugal projects I haven't made it a secret that our apartment is less than what I really want. But it serves our needs, and that is all that really matters isn't it? That being said, I dislike my kitchen very much. It is tiny. And I don't have the guts to post pictures of our house online. So you probably won't get to see it for some time. So I will do my best to explain. I guess it is considered a "galley" kitchen, with a little bump out. On one side there is enough counter space for a microwave and a dish drainer, we don't have a dish washer. The other side is the sink, a foot of counter space and the stove. That would sum up my counter space. So, I have been wanting one of those kitchen carts, not a huge one, for obvious reason, haha. I checked around town and the cheapest, size appropriate one was around $120, Ouch! So my little hard got very heavy and I settled into...

Homemade Hamburger Buns

There are just some days I don't want to eat a salad and chicken. Last night I made just about the best comfort food E.V.E.R. Hamburger and fries, all homemade. YUM!! Sometime last week I found this recipe for Awesome Hamburger Buns . They looked easy enough and I am still in the process of refining my bread box recipes, so I thought, Hey I'll give them a shot! Boy am I glad I did! This is before baking. My only change of the original recipe was I sprinkle basil and salt on top along with the dried onions. This is when I pulled them out of the oven. As you can see I couldn't take a picture before Chevy Man stole one! They smelled THAT good haha! I also found a new fry recipe. If you know me, you know there is nothing I love more than a really good fry and savory bread (Well, in this case buns!) These two went great together! You can find the fry recipe at Keep It Simple. So this was dinner tonight. Very filling, Very comforting, and VERY yummy!

Introducing Give It a Whirl Thursday- Sourdough Bread

Give it a Whirl Thursday will be a weekly column documenting triumphs and failures of frugal projects. I dislike sourdough bread. I think it is horrible. Why am I attempting to make it you ask? Chevy Man. He can't get enough of the stuff. So in an attempt to keep him happy I will drudgingly attempt to make it . I bookmarked this recipe (and about 50 others, lol) over a year ago. Honestly I'm actually scared to try. I know that sounds stupid, but sourdough is a tricky beast. But in reviewing this recipe it comes with a Q & A to assist, plus it is super easy. I decided to try it. If I didn't do it today, I would probably wait another year! To make the starter mix together: 3/4 cup sugar 3 tbsp. instant potato flakes 1 cup warm water 1/4 tsp. active yeast (this is optional) That's it! Then just let it live in a warm place for 3 days. Every 3 - 5 days you need to feed your starter. This means that every 3 - 5 days you can make your bread. Or, you can feed it once or tw...
