Lemon Ice Cubes

I am always trying to find ways to trick myself into drinking more water. I am more of a pop girl, which is not at all healthy. One of the tricks I use is a big mug. My favorite mug is from a local hospital, the only issue is to fill it up with ice take half an ice cube tray. It is frustrating to have to be constantly making ice.

There is something special about finding a little treat in your ice cube. You expect just a regular little ‘ole ice cube floating in your cup and you look down and low and behold you have a treasure! I thought it would be fitting to start this collection off with something you would normally find in water. Lemons. Lemons are cheap and have great health benefits.

Fill your muffin tin up ¾ of the way. I found the fuller you fill the pan, the easier it is to pop out once frozen. Place your sliced lemon in the water and freeze. I froze mine for 4 hours, I was inpatient and had about 30 lemons to cut up and make ice cubes out of!

Once frozen I used a knife and popped them out of the cupcake pan. I thought I might have to dip the bottom in warm water but that was never necessarly.

Place in your favorite cup and enjoy the slow release of lemony goodness!

Barn wood reindeer

I was  recently invited to an ornament exchange. We were instructed to create 12 of the same ornaments. We then wrapped one of the ornaments and put the other 11 in a box. We passed around the wrapped ornaments and opened them, sort of like a white elephant exchange. That way we all got to oogle and google  each others ornaments.

I made reclaimed barn wood reindeer. I think they turned out super cute. What do you think? Anyone want a tutorial?

How to Make Buttermilk From Regular Milk

How many times have you started making something only to realize that little container of buttermilk you bought 6 months ago is expired. Has it really been in there that long?

Here is a quick way to make buttermilk out of regular milk.


-Milk (just under 1 cup)
-1 Tablespoon White Vinegar or Lemon Juice

Put the vinegar (or lemon juice) in the bottom of a liquid measuring cup. Then fill it up to the 1 cup line with milk.

Let it stand about 5 minutes. Then you have Buttermilk! It gets kinda chunky, this is normal. Now you can use it in any recipe just as you would buttermilk.
