2010 Garden

My cute little lettuce :)

In 2008 I started attempting to garden. We have always lived in an apartment and I didn't have a clue how to execute my dreams of a huge garden. Then I discovered container gardening.

While I didn't yield much from my garden it was a great start and got me wanting more. Last years garden was started, it was supposed to be about twice the size of '08. We ended up having some issues and the garden was allowed to die. This still makes me so sad!

So this year I didn't want to go overboard, seeing as we really don't have much room for containers outside. So I decided to grow lettuce, container carrots, chives, squash, sweet basil, tomatoes, peppers, and a little experiment... luffa sponge gourd... I just started seeds in a paper towel. Nothing fancy, but it works for me!
I just put the seeds in a damp paper towel and put into a ziplock bag that has the seed packet attached to the outside. I water every 3-4 days until well sprouted.
These little carrots look very interesting. I can't wait to see how they turn out!
I'm SUPER excited to see if these even will grow. I want to make the soap loofa out of it :)

Monday I will be transferring most of these to little containers. Little pots from the dollar store, egg containers, etc.

I am so looking forward to the fruits err.. veggies of my little labor!

What are you growing in your garden this year?

  1. I am attempting gardening for the first time this year! And I am also doing it in containers since we don't own a home. My fenced in back patio will work well I think. I just planted two types of lettuce, spinach, swiss chard, and radishes. Hoping to do more once the weather gets a bit warmer.

  2. Thanks so much for linking up! :) I love container gardening! Such a wonderful way to get healthy veggies, and some of those varieties are really unique -- you'll have to show pics when you "harvest" them. Hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend!
    Blessings,

  3. This is only our 2nd year vegetable gardening. Last year we planted in June (in Georgia you should be planting after Good Friday!) This year I'm focusing on tomatoes, green beans and trying my hand at lettuce...we'll see how it goes. I love those round carrots! I thought they were beets at first glance!

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Really? Meatloaf? Actually this is really good! We usually have it a few times a month. Super easy too! 1/2 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup ketchup 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef {I use 1 pound} 3/4 cup milk 2 eggs {I only use 1 egg} 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper 1 small onion, chopped 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger 3/4 cup finely crushed saltine cracker crumbs {I usually use pretzels, I never seem to buy saltines} Directions 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 5x9 inch loaf pan. 2. Press the brown sugar in the bottom of the prepared loaf pan and spread the ketchup over the sugar. 3. In a mixing bowl, mix thoroughly all remaining ingredients and shape into a loaf. Place on top of the ketchup. 4. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour or until juices are clear. {source} What's for Dinner tonight in your house?

One Month to love book review

This book is divided into 30 short chapters that cover all different aspects of relationships in your life. Some people are more easy to love than others, and this definitely helps with the difficulties involved in some people. Some things in this book are very predictable. Such as focusing on the person that you actually with. In the age we live in, it is often easier or more convenient to 'play' on our phones or computers, instead of paying attention to the people that matter the most.  Each chapter ends with a challenge which includes questions or things to think about and consider. While much of this book is just reiterating what we all should be doing to maintain and straighten our relationships there are some surprising ideas. One that stood out to me is the chapter entitled. ' Practicing the art of risking awkwardness'.  Included in this chapter is the idea of swallowing your pride and facing the uncomfortable stage where something has happened and usually

Framed Burlap Focal Point

Is your mom hard to buy for? Seriously, I can never decide what to get my mom. She just moved and doesn't have her new house decorated completely yet. She has been trying to find something for her dinning room wall for a few months. So my sister and I brainstormed and came up with this. Supplies 5 frames -$5 primer -$2.97 (on hand) I did use the whole can. black spray paint -$.97 (on hand) burlap -$2.47/yard (on hand) You'll need a little less than a yard, but that depends on how many letters you choose. paper -on hand x-acto knife -on hand- But, they have these right now at my Honk's dollar store. Hot glue -on hand Total $8.44 and up I forgot to take a picture of the frames before but they are the ones at Dollar Tree. 11x14.. and red. I primed (3 times) and painted them black. All with spray paint, I even used the 97 cent walmart black :) We started out by picking the word we wanted. Printed it out until we found the size and font that fit. We came up with this. Then my si
