IHOP Vs. Homemade

Do you think it’s cheaper to eat out then have to grocery shop then have to cook your food at home? I used to be one of those people. When I was in college I would just run to McDonald’s honestly believing that $10 a meal was much better than having to make dinner at home.

In all honesty I’ve never sat down and figured out how much a McDonald’s meal is compared to the same thing at home. I just noticed that after I started eating more at home that my bank accounts balance was much higher at the end of each month.

Recently I went to IHOP and when they sat the food down, all I could think is “Why are we paying for someone to make this for us when I could make it all at home and for so much less?” So I snapped a picture of our food. When I got home I got out my price book, I wanted to figure out how much it would cost me to make the same exact IHOP meal at home.

My Meal
Bacon 3 pieces $.38
Eggs 2- $.25
French toast 4 pieces- $.24
Egg 1- $.13

Chevy Man’s meal.
Bacon 3 pieces $.38
Eggs 2- $.25
French toast 4 pieces- $.24
Egg 1- $.13

Total for at home IHOP Meal $2.00

Total at IHOP before Coupon $22.24
Total at IHOP after coupon(had a coupon for buy one meal get one free) $13.77

Wow! What a difference, that really makes me want to never eat out again!

How do you feel about the cost of eating out?

Comments

  1. It does get very expensive to eat out. We only eat out once a week, usually either Fri. or Sat. night. I need to get better about what I buy at the grocery store 'cause I probably spend way too much!

  2. We really are going to have to just stop eating out all together. It just drains our wallets way too fast!

  3. Its scarey when you start figuring out the cost? We use to eat out a lot until we got down to living on Wendell's disability. Even cooking every night and doing it from scratch we still can't make ends meet. If it weren't for the local food bank, I don't know what we would do.

    Take Care,

  4. I am so glad that cities have food banks across the country. whenever we have extra money or whatever they need we try to donate. honestly we have only donated a few times but I want to help out when we can. Someday everyone may need to use their local food bank. I'm so glad you were able to have that resource.

  5. We eat out about once a week, and always with a coupon! It's a luxury not to have to cook or wash dishes. We try not to go out for foods that I can make at home. :)

  6. I am the same way! I can't even enjoy eating out because all I"m thinking about it how much I could have saved by cooking this at home.

  7. Sandra- I really enjoy eating out, well I should say I used too.. But it is just so much cheaper at home...

Melissa- I think that is the reason I enjoy eating out. Not having to wash dishes!!

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Really? Meatloaf? Actually this is really good! We usually have it a few times a month. Super easy too! 1/2 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup ketchup 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef {I use 1 pound} 3/4 cup milk 2 eggs {I only use 1 egg} 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper 1 small onion, chopped 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger 3/4 cup finely crushed saltine cracker crumbs {I usually use pretzels, I never seem to buy saltines} Directions 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 5x9 inch loaf pan. 2. Press the brown sugar in the bottom of the prepared loaf pan and spread the ketchup over the sugar. 3. In a mixing bowl, mix thoroughly all remaining ingredients and shape into a loaf. Place on top of the ketchup. 4. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour or until juices are clear. {source} What's for Dinner tonight in your house?

One Month to love book review

This book is divided into 30 short chapters that cover all different aspects of relationships in your life. Some people are more easy to love than others, and this definitely helps with the difficulties involved in some people. Some things in this book are very predictable. Such as focusing on the person that you actually with. In the age we live in, it is often easier or more convenient to 'play' on our phones or computers, instead of paying attention to the people that matter the most.  Each chapter ends with a challenge which includes questions or things to think about and consider. While much of this book is just reiterating what we all should be doing to maintain and straighten our relationships there are some surprising ideas. One that stood out to me is the chapter entitled. ' Practicing the art of risking awkwardness'.  Included in this chapter is the idea of swallowing your pride and facing the uncomfortable stage where something has happened and usually

BuildASign Review

For a few months I have been playing around with the idea of re-opening my etsy shop. But in doing so I would really want to make a go of it. This meaning, I need inventory, facebook page, business cards, etc. It just seemed like to daunting of a task. I have been working on my inventory for about a month. I still don't have all of the items made that I would like, but I am working on it. Facebook page is up, needs some updating and to be made puuurty but it is created. So on to business cards. I had been contacted by  BuildASign  to review a product of my choice. I jumped at the chance to order some business cards from this very reputable company. I not only wanted a good quality of paper for my business cards, but a customization template that was easy to use. They have it all! With their  Business Card Maker  I was able to create exactly what I was looking for and with very little effort of time. They don't just have business cards. They have a  banner maker , which woul
